Joel was great and accommodating when I contacted him the evening before the tour (we were swept up in the Zipcar outage) to possibly change the day. I appreciated the kindness and flexibility. The tour itself was great. We were given the maximum possible time in each location, which was just enough to enjoy the places we visited. Having done a 6 mile Rainier hike the day before, I really appreciated not having to drive several hours or worry about ferry logistics. It was nice to just be able to sit back and relax, nap on the bus, and enjoy the trip, and Joel’s stories. He even managed to get us to a restaurant we wanted to go to right before it closed. He had interesting commentary along the ride to the national park, with a good stop to buy lunch (as the lodge might not have much selection). Once we arrived at the national park, we had several stops at lovely waterfalls and other sites. The sun broke out when we got to Paradise! The mountain was out in all her glory. He noticed that my mom was feeling sick and arranged for her to sit in the front seat and offered her ginger ale. We stopped at a gas station with a deli and grabbed food for the day which we ate as we went. Our first stop close to the park was at Tongue Point where we got to see tide pools because it was low tide. We got to see an abundance of tiny crabs, sea anemones, and even a sea star!
Our next stop was at Crescent Lake. We hiked in a lush, green, old growth rainforest which was beautiful!!
Finally, we drove up to the visitor center at Hurricane Ridge. If I hadn’t been confident in Joel’s driving, I would have been a little terrified driving up the side of a mountain without guardrails. There was snow around the visitor center and we also saw a couple of marmots (small animal that lives there).
My son loved that Joel had a snowball fight with him. He said that has been one of his favorite things about our week long trip to the Seattle area.
I highly recommend this tour- it is worth the money!!! The National Park is truly awe inspiring and Joel took great care of us! He went out of his way to make sure that everyone had a good experience. He is a kind, generous, and compassionate person, we really appreciated him!!
